Palatinate (/ pəˈlætɪnɪt /; German: Pfalz) is a German wine -growing region (Weinbaugebiet) in the area of Bad Dürkheim, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, and Landau in Rhineland-Palatinate. Before 1993, it was known as Rhine Palatinate (Rheinpfalz).

The Palatinate region ranks alongside the Moselle as the largest producer of Riesling in the world with around 5,000 hectares devoted to the grape. It is also the biggest red wine region in Germany.

With more than 23,700 hectares under cultivation, Palatinate is Germany’s second-largest wine-growing region, and the 5,971 hectares of Riesling are even considered world-class. White wines make up 68 percent of the area, and red wines and rosé are the other 32 percent.

Of 13 wine regions producing quality wine in Germany, six (Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Mosel, Nahe, Mittelrhein, and Ahr) are located in Rhineland-Palatinate, with 65 to 70% of the production of wine grapes in Germany having their origin within the state. [25]

Rhineland-Palatinate can boast six main wine-producing regions: Palatinate, Rhine-Hesse, Nahe, Ahr, Moselle, and Middle-Rhine. Palatinate (Pfalz) : This region is renowned for its Riesling, but it also produces a wide variety of other wines such as Gewürztraminer and Dornfelder.

The Palatinate grows some of Germany’s best wines, including Riesling and Gewürztraminer. This region makes some of Germany’s best wines, and isn’t hard to find. The most famous wine from here is Riesling, which is the grape that makes up most of German’s best white wines.
