Jun 21, 2021 · If it's a voluntary thing Tesla plans to issue rather than the NHTSA finding it and forcing it, it would seem likely they'd time that strategically to ensure the least negative impact (after a fix was identified and produced, etc etc). I'm just thinking out of my ass though, the change in the reddit poster's story doesn't exactly add credibility.

Jul 7, 2020 · The NHTSA was hammered by false reports of this issue from a short seller. The short seller effectively made this issue invisible - his reports outumber actual ones 1000 to one or more! So to the NHTSA they all look fake and actual problems are a needle in a hay stack. He was still doing it last time I checked my car's recalls.

NHTSA opens and closes investigations all the time. Tesla could be down 1.8% in pre-market on absolutely nothing. Not everything has to be a conspiracy theory.
