She held memberships in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which her father co-founded in 1957, and at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

A public memorial for Yolanda King was held on May 24, 2007, at Ebenezer Baptist Church Horizon Sanctuary in Atlanta, Georgia. Many in attendance did not know her, but came out of respect for the King family's history of peace protests and social justice.
