May 31, 2023 · The Shapton Glass stones come in two variations, the HR and the HC. You can sharpen all of those steels on the Shapton Glass HR stones. They won't sharpen quite as fast as diamonds, but they do give good feedback and are some of my favorite stones.
Shapton: Which type of stone do you prefer and why? : …
Feb 7, 2022 · Shapton glass stones are commonly found to have poor feedback vs the pro stones. The definition of feedback I am using is the ability to feel when the bevel is flat across the stone and also the ability to tell by the stones feel and sound when the scratches of the previous grit stone have been removed.

Mar 5, 2017 · This is pretty much true with all the Shapton Glass stones though. The SG120 is a bit of an odd duck but I find surface prep of this stone to be critical to its use. The 120 to 320 Glass are all recommended to be lapped with Silicon Carbide powder and I would be guessing thats more for surface texture than anything.
Shapton Glass Stone Flattening - DMT "Coarse" enough?
Feb 21, 2013 · The only Shapton Glass stones I have are for the Edge Pro. I flatten those on the DMT with the dimples all the time and the DMT still cuts the hell out of my S110V knives to reprofile VERY EASILY. This is a very old Coarse Extra Coarse.

Aug 31, 2010 · Same with s30v. IF you buy shapton glass, and use the DGLP, you will never look back. They are simply heavenly when kept flat and groomed the DGLP. The pro stones are great too, but they really shine with soft stainless, and high carbon. Glass stones are a bit aggressive for high carbon steel knives, however will still work fine.

Jun 15, 2020 · Shapton Glass stones are ceramic abrasive so they have some greater abilities than other common waterstones but they still have a limit. The 4% vanadium rule is just scratching the surface, other elements and their % will factor in, such as the Niobium also found in S35VN which is a hard and small carbide former.
DMT vs Shapton Glass --- what would be your choice?
Jun 4, 2015 · Shapton Glass 500 Shapton Glass 2000 Shapton Glass 6000 Shapton Glass 16k Price wise... It was a difficult decision. The 500-2000-16k kit is the same price as the 500-1000-4000-8000 kit. High-End Stones for TSProf- Naniwa/Shapton Glass?
Dec 22, 2019 · I just noticed you said shapton glass. I would still recommend the shapton pro especially if the price makes sense. They wear great. I just ordered the SG 500,2000, 16000 because I liked my pros so much. I think the decision between the pros and Glass is a value based decision but I’ll have to wait until I put mine to use.
