Feb 8, 2023 · In the late 1990s, SEPTA again went with Neoplan. This time the order was for 155 60 foot articulated buses. A prototype was built in 1998 (7101) and debuted in May of 1999 in front of SEPTA headquarters.

These buses were mostly retired in 2005, with the final buses being taken out of service in June of 2008. This was SEPTA's second large order of Neoplan AN440s, after the Pennliners of the early 1980s. These were different from the Pennliners in that they had a ZF Ecomat Transmission.
