Jay and the Americans are one of the most enduring vocal groups to emerge from the 1960s, known for their unforgettable hits and smooth harmonies. Today, the group continues to wow audiences across the country, led by the powerhouse vocals of Jay Reincke.

One of the most popular groups of the '60s, Jay and the Americans brought a distinctive sound and clean cut image to the music scene. Six high school classmates from the Belle Harbor neighborhood on Long Island formed the Harbor Lites, named after their neighborhood, in 1959.

Traynor was the third lead vocalist of the Mystics, singing falsetto on "The White Cliffs of Dover", and lead on "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Blue Star". [1] [3] Later, he started Jay and the Americans with Kenny Vance and Sandy Yaguda, and was the original lead singer.He sang lead on the group's first hit, "She Cried", which was followed up by the album She Cried. [4]

Though they had a bunch of hits across the 1960s, Jay & the Americans were a throwback to a previous era with their doo wop-influenced vocals, neatly groomed, short-haired appearance, and mix of pop/rock with operatic schmaltz.
