Grandfather Clock does not sound normal - NAWCC Forums
Mar 24, 2024 · Hello everyone! A few weeks ago, I dutifully lifted the weights to wind my grandfather clock. It is all original and has been maintained by me. It is a Pearl that I bought for my Mom back in '82. I fear I lifted the weights too high and she refused to …
How to make grandfather clock chime quieter? - NAWCC Forums
Jan 17, 2006 · My grandfather clock is a bit too loud. Maybe it's because I have a small livingroom, or the acoustics of the room just make it loud. Or maybe I'm just too quiet. It's a Hermle 1161-853 movement. I was able to make the stike quieter by adjusting the amount of lift on the hammers. However...
Strange Beat in Grandfather Clock - What's that tic-tick sound?
May 28, 2012 · This is the first grandfather clock I will have looked at and, if it's anything like the wall clock they had me look at, is going to be from the ~1900 to early 1900 time frame. I haven't pulled anything out to examine yet. It may be obvious once I can actually see the movement in action. I was just hoping to poll opinions as to what that sound is.
Howard Miller Grandfather clock/strike sounds horrible
Jun 26, 2023 · I've never had a floor clock with the hermle 1151 movement with side hammers. And tbh I don't one either. As you say, Hermle movements are everywhere. Nearly every clock that comes in has the 0451 or 1151 movements . That is the reason why I have accumulated a few hundred of them! I don't know why but nearly all of them have the shorter handshafts.
Increasing volume on Emperor grandfather clock - NAWCC Forums
Dec 6, 2008 · This is a silly question but. I just set up an emperor grandfather clock. The chimes and strike seem low. I adjusted the hammers to get the clearest sound without any distortion. Is there anyway to control the hammer strike pressure?? I think not, but what the hell do I know?
Make quality of chime rods "not so tinny" - NAWCC Forums
Feb 15, 2018 · Hello All, I have a new Howard Miller Eisenhower Presidential Grandfather clock. Love the case and inlaid woods, but I am not a fan of the chime sound. I also have a Howard Miller grandmother clock (ca. 1971) with Westminster chime. The tone of that one is rich. When the new clock chimes, no...
Emperor Grandfather Clock - NAWCC Forums
Dec 11, 2024 · Emperor was a mass manufacturer of grandfather clock kits & complete clocks for many years. They are now little more than an outlet for Hermle products. Most of their old factory records are gone now. The movement was made by Kieninger or Hermle. There are many posts about these movements on this forum.
Chime Rods and Disharmonic Overtones?? Am I Crazy?? - NAWCC …
Apr 19, 2014 · Hello! I just got a grandfather clock; one of my all time goals in life. It's a New England Clock Company 1972 Abel Cottney. It runs perfect, keeps great time, etc etc. The only thing that bothers me is that the chime rods sound strange--I mean, they play as they should, they hit once, in sequence, well spaced, etc...
Smith clock pendulum no tick tock sound - NAWCC Forums
May 22, 2008 · The clock can run up to an hour without stopping then it just stops. When I start the pendulum again there is no tick tock sound the first few times I swing it, then it starts to tick tock again and runs for an hour then all of a sudden it stops.
Grandfather clock mechanism trigger but no chime - NAWCC …
Jun 23, 2020 · Oiling a dirty clock will often get it going again, but it tends to make the dirt act like a file and a accelerate the wear. If you do decide to oil it, use only a synthetic oil, and not too heavy. Some actual clock oil would be best. Do not put oil on any gears except the escape wheel teeth. That's the one that makes the tick toc sound.
