Apr 2, 2017 · It's a little more work but you might consider a half lap miter joint and exterior wood glue. Clamp up the joint and a you won't need brad nails or screws because of the much larger glue surface. Google half lap miter for a look. Use clamping cauls to spread the force and eliminate clamp marks in the soft redwood.

It might work, but the nail tends to bend and buckle since it is so thin and fairly soft. So some may indeed go deep enough, others might just push to the side, and others might compress and crumble.

Mar 10, 2011 · However when I went to nail the base rail for the paneling below a window in our dining room, the nail gun (15ga 2.5") would sink the nail to a certain degree (through the drywall at least) and then bend the nail. The window in question is on the right hand side of the wall, 10" in from the corner.

For example, if I am doing some hand planing, and then need to make a rip on the TS, I need to make sure that the outfeed is clear or I risk pushing a handplane onto the floor.
