
Where would one buy a 486 desktop computer these days?
Nov 13, 2013 · Fully built 486 machines do crop up from time-to-time but they are pretty expensive. The CPU, cases, power supplies, HDDs, floppy drives and RAM are pretty common and compatible. The motherboard I eventually got was just an ATX one and it popped straight into a modern case no problem at all.

Sep 7, 2010 · I got my first PC in '93, which was an Intel 486/SX25 with a 512k Trident Graphics card, 4MB Ram, and an Adlib sound card. It had a massive 120MB HDD (Which was an absolute beast, most people I knew back then had 40MB drives). I had so much HDD space that I installed all my games and backed up the discs too incase the floppies died.

Being in my early teens, I didn't think much about it - just assuming that having a sound card meant sound. I do remember being pleased at the compatibility of my card as it appeared in almost every setup procedure.

Jun 13, 2019 · But objectively, the Amiga needs a mouse, joystick and keyboard. That would be impractical in mini form, so I'd imagine that an Amiga mini would not be a computer, but a menu with a list of games , like the other Minis. But If you take away the mouse and keyboard you loose all the games that were specifically Amiga.

Jan 10, 2025 · My dad was a very VERY early proponent of WFH - we got our first home computer in 1986 (an Amstrad CPC with Mini Office II) and from then until his retirement he had a succession of nicer and faster home computers. Went over to DOS PCs in about 1990 or 1991, a 486 with Windows 3.11 in 1994, and so on.

Aug 18, 2019 · Watched a YouTube video of X-Wing running on the MiSTER 486 core with an MT-32pi, and it looked and sounded absolutely fantastic, smooth as silk. I went from Amiga to PC with Lucasarts, jumping across in 1993 so I could play Day of the Tentacle. As such, that whole 486 era is pretty special to me.
