Nov 18, 2024 · I use Light .011’s on my J-160E & like them the best of any of the numerous Strings I’ve tried. Gibson used to include the name & gauge of Strings on their Specs. They used to be D ‘Adarrio .012’s mostly. But, IMO, they also didn’t sound great plugged in. You can always call Gibson & ask them what comes on them from the factory.

May 23, 2024 · GHS = .013. He said this was consistent with the other gauged strings and has zero effect on the sound of the string. It's just the specs Gibson gave them from the outset. Finally, Masterbuilts wound Strings have Bronze "plated" Hex Core wire. GHS have tin "plating". Again, the plating is so thin it has zero bearing on the tone.

Sep 7, 2017 · Gibson J-200 strings (this is the name of the string set) differ from the Masterbuilts by the silk wrap on the ball ends, which is easily seen without removing the strings from the guitar. I still have a maybe a half dozen unopened Elgin-made Masterbuilt sets, as well as some D'Addario-made sets, and I use them interchangeably.

Many like Martin Strings, D'addario, Cleartone, Gibson Strings, Thomastik Infeld, Elixirs, DR Strings, GHS Strings and the list goes on. Bronze: They have clear, ringing and bright tone, but age quickly due to bronze’s tendency to oxidize.

Apr 8, 2017 · Don't know if I've ever considered it. Either way, I'd just put on the Gibby strings and see if I like them on the Martin (assuming the "new" guitar is fine with the string guage). They can sound and even feel different on a different guitar. Of course, guitar strings are among those items we get fixated-on in our brains.
