WFP food reaches key Sudan city in bid to stop famine spreading. Story | 23 January 2025

WFP is the largest humanitarian organization implementing school- meals programmes worldwide, with over 50 years’ experience in this area. In 2023, WFP transferred food to over 100 million people.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has a presence in over 120 countries and territories. We bring life-saving assistance in emergencies and support sustainable and resilient livelihoods to achieve a world with zero hunger.

Every year, WFP assists millions of people left displaced, homeless or deprived of basic resources by conflict, climate-related disasters, pandemics or other catastrophic events. We provide emergency relief to people whose lives and/or livelihoods are under threat, including through food and cash.

Across the globe, as many as 343 million people are facing acute levels of food insecurity in the 74 countries with WFP operations and where data is available. The World Food Programme (WFP) works each day to tackle hunger, with the ultimate goal of a world where no one is left without enough food.

Created in 1961 as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system, WFP was to be reassessed within three years. As crises multiplied, the experiment proved its worth. Today, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency saving lives and changing lives.

How WFP supports a country where food affordability, quality and safety remain pressing challenges, while malnutrition continues to pose a major health concern. With a growing population of more than 106 million, Egypt is the most populous country in North Africa and the Arab world, and an influential geopolitical actor in the region.

Dec 10, 2024 · WFP needs US$16.9 billion to address the humanitarian needs of 123 million vulnerable people in 2025, as detailed in the WFP 2025 Global Outlook. The first WFP trucks in many months reach famine-struck Zamzam camp in Sudan, carrying life-saving food for over 10,000 displaced people.

Jan 15, 2025 · To make a meaningful impact on the food security of people in Gaza, WFP needs the international community to scale up funding. WFP can send around 1,600 trucks of food (30,200 tons) each month to facilitate distributions for over 1 million people.
