State law and the proposed ordinance require flashing yellow lights to indicate a school zone is active and signs warning of cameras. There is a 60-day grace period before tickets are issued.

Cameras are a much safer deterrent than having police officers make stops. Every stop made by an officer results in risks to them or to the occupant. It impedes traffic flow. It also frees up officers in undermanned police forces to investigate, capture and/or arrest more violent offenders.
