Pope Leo XIV has met at the Vatican with the head of the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine. It was one of his first audiences as pontiff that reaffirmed his appeal for a peaceful, negotiated end to Russia’s war.

Pope Leo XIV met with the Major Archbishop of Kyiv Sviatoslav Shevchuk in the Apostolic Palace on Thursday, who presented the pope with a painting.

Pope Leo's inauguration ceremony will offer yet another opportunity for U.S. and Ukrainian leaders to negotiate peace.
