“NextGen Acela is more than a new train—it’s an evolution of travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acela as we launch a new standard for American train travel.”

After several years of delays, Amtrak is expected to debut its new, redesigned Acela high-speed trains in Philadelphia later this month, writes Mike D’Onofrio

The new trains feature 27 percent more seats and more daily departures, Amtrak said. They will have a top speed of 160 miles per hour, 10 miles per hour faster than the current fleet.
