Djokovic pulled out of the prestigious tournament in Rome, which is the third and final Masters 1000 event of the clay season, on Tuesday.

Novak Djokovic has added a tournament to his schedule as he will play the Geneva Open for the second straight year later this month. He lost last year to Tomas Machac.

These are veterans Gael Monfils (No. 42) and Kei Nishikori (No. 64), two of the most experienced players currently on the Tour, who join a list led by the 6-time Italian Open champion Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic - who is chasing a fourth tournament win on the clay in Rome having lifted the crown in 2008, 2011 and 2014 - overcame a typically tenacious David Ferrer 6-4 6-4.

Novak Djokovic marked his 38th birthday in style on Thursday, defeating Matteo Arnaldi 6-4 6-4 to reach the Geneva Open semi-finals and continue his pursuit of a 100th career title.
