Iga Swiatek, the world No. 2 from Poland, was thrashed 6-1 6-1 by Coco Gauff of the United States on Thursday, May 1, in the semifinals of Madrid Open.

It was Świątek's worst loss on clay since 2019. She must now regroup for the Italian Open in Rome, where she is the defending champion.

Coco Gauff is the first to acknowledge that Iga Swiatek on clay has been a very difficult challenge for her but highlights that she is confident and believes she has "a good chance" of sealing her first win over the Pole on Madrid's clay.
