The highly-anticipated final at the Cincinnati Open came to a sad ending on Monday, as World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was forced to retire from the match against No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz while trailing 5-0 due to illness. With the result, Alcaraz wins his third Masters 1000 title of the season and his eighth overall in his storied young career.
Carlos led 20-14 in service winners and dominated the baseline 36-20. He landed 28 winners and 24 unforced errors, sailing over the top and prevailing for the ultimate test with more hours on the practice court.
Carlos Alcaraz is the 2025 Cincinnati Open men’s singles champion after world No. 1 Jannik Sinner was forced to retire in the final on Monday due to injury. Alcaraz led 5-0 when Sinner called the trainer and was unable to continue.
