The black map, simply named "Wind Map," displays white streaks that show varying wind speeds from 1 to 30 miles per hour. The stronger the winds, the more dense the white streaks.
The map is not exactly real-time, but it comes pretty close: the data is updated every three hours and it can be set to show wind conditions on any day in recent history.
The next step for the design team is to create a real time wind map of the entire globe. The map draws from hourly NOAA wind speed data, turning the information into a graphic interface.
