Nearly a mile deep and about 700 miles northwest of San Francisco, the volcano known as Axial Seamount is drawing increasing scrutiny from scientists who only discovered its existence in the 1980s.

Naturally, the scientists are drawing the conclusion that another eruption will follow this seafloor swelling, meaning this underwater volcano is likely to erupt in 2025.

The volcano, which now stretches some 800 meters off the seafloor, didn’t even exist six months prior, and reports from island residents paint a clear picture of when it was created.
