A magnitude 7.6 earthquake was reported in the middle of the Caribbean Sea Saturday night – triggering a wave of tsunami warnings around the region that have since been lifted.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean Sea Saturday evening north of Honduras and southwest of the Cayman Islands.

A Tsunami Advisory was issued on Saturday evening following 7.6 magnitude earthquake, which occurred southwest of the Cayman Islands in the Northwest Pacific. The National Tsunami Warning Center said sea-level fluctuations and strong ocean currents were possible in the aftermath of the earthquake but the threat did not rise to a Tsunami Warning.

The massive earthquake began Saturday night about 130 miles south-southwest of George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A tsunami threat was initially forecast for 20 countries and islands,
