With their 4–0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, the Leafs secured the division title and set up a long-awaited playoff rematch against the Ottawa Senators. This is the Leafs' first full-season division crown in 25 years and their first since the NHL created the Atlantic in 2013.

Although the Red Wings opened the scoring in the first period, the Maple Leafs won 3-1 to become the first three-peat team in NHL modern history -- an original dynasty. In the winner's dressing room, Day dipped his finger into the champagne-filled Stanley Cup and shouted, "You're seeing a Happy Day at night!"

For the ninth year in a row, the Leafs will attempt to end their curse and bring home Lord Stanley's mug for the first time since 1967.
