Following a 2024 rumor, the trades have finally confirmed that Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai will take the helm of the live-action Street Fighter

The Hollywood Reporter says Kitao Sakurai, writer, director, and executive producer on the absurd comedy show The Eric Andre Show, will direct a new film adaptation of Street Fighter for Legendary Entertainment. Capcom is said to be “deeply involved” with the adaptation with the movie already given a March 20, 2026 release date.

Kitao Sakurai is kicking it to the street. The filmmaker, perhaps best known for writing, directing and exec producing The Eric Andre Show, has been tapped to direct Street Fighter, Legendary Entertainment’s feature adaptation of the classic video game from Capcom.
