Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn will meet members of the Trump administration as he takes in St Patrick’s Day events in Washington DC this week.

Michelle O’Neill and Emma Little-Pengelly will attend a political event which is also expected to include British prime minister Keir Starmer and the first ministers of Scotland and Wales.

Micheal Martin was speaking as he travelled to the US for a visit which will include a bilateral meeting with the president Donald Trump.
