BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox activated right-handed hitting first baseman Romy Gonzalez from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. Boston will open a three-game series against the Angels here at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

Gonzalez’s return also enables the Red Sox to play Abraham Toro at third base. Other than Rafael Devers, Toro has the most hot-corner experience on the active roster by far. He’s also been one of Boston’s hottest hitters of late,

It has been a disastrous season for the Boston Red Sox's first basemen. The Opening Day starter, Triston Casas, is out for the year after undergoing knee surgery. Third baseman turned designated hitter Rafael Devers does not want to fill the void.
