Thomas Bassford said he believed Americans today are under attack from their own government and need to stand up against it.

The protest, organized by Rise & Resist, is the latest in a series across the country coordinated by a variety of grassroots organizations.

Some of the protests, dubbed "50501 movement," "No Kings" and "Hands Off!," are drawing on themes from the American Revolutionary War.
