A student airlifted from near the peak of Mount Fuji returned to the slope and was rescued for a second time just four days later, authorities said.

Authorities in Japan have rescued the same climber from the slopes of Mount Fuji twice in the space of a week. The 27-year-old man was first rescued on Tuesday after falling ill, Shizuoka prefectural police told CNN on Monday.

Officials said the unnamed mountaineer was alone on the Fujinomiya trail on April 22. He had to be rescued again just four days later.
