Walt Jocketty, a three-time baseball executive of the year and former general manager for both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, has died. He was 74.

Jocketty got his start in baseball when he was hired by Charlie Finley and assembled the Bash Brothers by drafting Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco for the A’s.

Walt Jocketty, a decorated general manager with the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds, has died at age 74, both teams confirmed Saturday. In a multi-decade career as an MLB executive, Jocketty lead both teams to postseason runs, including a World Series win with the Cardinals in 2006.
