The Detroit City Council on Tuesday officially approved Mayor Mike Duggan's appointment of the new police chief.

Todd Bettison, who has served three months as interim Detroit Police Chief, has been given a permanent appointment for the role. Mayor Mike Duggan made his recommendation for Bettison public on Feb.

The Detroit City Council officially voted to approve Todd Bettison as the city's new police chief during Tuesday's meeting.

Bettison was appointed as interim chief in October and has been with the Detroit Police Department for the past 27 years.
