Estimates released Monday by the California Department of Finance show that the state’s population dropped from 39,303,157 on Jan. 1, 2021, to 39,185,605 on Jan. 2, 2022 — a decrease of 0.3%.
While California did see a small increase in its population last year, the overall trend since 2019 has been that of gradual decline, decreasing from 39.53 million in 2020 to 38.97 million in 2023 ...
Every county, however, did not fare equally. Here are 10 maps and a chart that show how the population grew and shrank in different counties, and how California fits in with national trends.
California population grew by 1% in 2013, reaching 38.3 million Los Angeles’ population climbed by more than 38,000 to 3.9 million in 2013, according to state figures released Wednesday.
Twenty-five of California’s 58 counties saw population decreases in that 15-month period. The state’s greatest increase was San Benito County, up 3.8%.
