A man has been charged with four offences following a 36-hour stand-off in Sheffield earlier this week which caused disruption across the city. Yaqub Younis, 47, has been charged with affray, bomb hoax - communicating false information, intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance and criminal damage.

A police cordon had been in place in central Sheffield on Wednesday for 36 hours after a man claimed to have weapons and explosives in a residential building.

Pictures have been posted online showing police negotiating with a 'dangerous man' on a balcony. South Yorkshire Police were alerted to concerns of a man who was 'at risk to himself with weapons' around 7pm last night which led to a mass eviction of the apartment block in Sheffield and people in other neighbouring towers ordered to stay inside.

Police remain at the Gateway apartment building in Sheffield as the stand-off continues into a second night. Officers can be seen in the building after they were first called on Monday evening to reports of a man with weapons inside one of the apartments.

Residents have been sent a letter after a standoff between police and a 'dangerous man' goes over 20 hours in South Yorkshire. Since 7pm last night (February 10) Sheffield has stood still with road closures and public transport diversions as emergency crews were alerted to a 'dangerous man' at Sheffield Parkway.
