Covington County Circuit Judge Benjamin M. Bowden has been appointed to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals by Gov. Kay Ivey, the governor announced Wednesday. Bowden replaces Judge Bill Lewis on the five-member appeals court.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed state appellate Judge Bill Lewis to the Alabama Supreme Court. Lewis will be the first Black Republican to serve on the court.

Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell has officially resigned from his post. Mitchell became a member of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2018 and was scheduled to finish his current term in 2031. In his resignation letter,
