Things are heating up in Phoenix after the Mercury acquired 5-time All-Star forward Alyssa Thomas in a trade with the Connecticut Sun, per reports.

The Connecticut Sun traded Thomas to the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. It’s unclear what the Sun will get in return. Thomas was originally drafted by the New York Liberty in 2014 but was traded on draft day to Connecticut and will leave the team as one of its greatest players in franchise history.

The Atlanta Dream have signed three-time All-Star Brionna Jones marking their second major free-agent acquisition of the offseason after adding 10-time All-Star Brittney Griner. Jones previously played with the Connecticut Sun. Jones' agent, Boris Lelchitski, confirmed the deal to ESPN's Alexa Philippou on Thursday.

But there’s a reason the NBA doesn’t have teams in Ft. Wayne and Syracuse anymore. The WNBA has outgrown Uncasville. Mohegan Sun is fine for Indoor Lacrosse and could host Arena Football or even a G-League team someday. But the 9,000-seat arena and market are too small for where the WNBA is and where it’s going.
