The House on Wednesday approved the ban, after previously considering proposals to preserve the industry by tightening regulations.

SB 3 is expected to receive final approval in the House on Thursday before returning to the Senate. Senate lawmakers will have to approve the largely aligned legislation, albeit with certain differences, before it makes its way to the governor's desk.

State Rep. Tom Oliverson (R-Cypress) introduced the floor amendment that transformed Senate Bill 3 – which would have regulated and taxed THC-containing products while leaving many of them legal – back into the complete prohibition initially passed by the Senate.
