Miami Beach has been ordered to remove its rainbow crosswalk on Ocean Drive by the first week of September. “We need to resist this action,” Commissioner Alex Fernandez told WSVN-TV. “We need to protect the individuality of our community, the freedom and the safety that our rainbow crosswalk expresses to the world.”

The rainbow crosswalk in front of Orlando's Pulse nightclub was removed by Florida transportation officials. The crosswalk was a memorial for those killed in a 2016 mass shooting at the gay bar.

Volunteers used colorful chalk to restore a rainbow crosswalk in Orlando, Florida which honored the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting. The crosswalk had been painted over as part of the Trump administration's latest effort to remove politically-tinged street art.

While the letter from Duffy didn't specifically point to things like rainbow crosswalks, he did suggest that type of display may be unsafe.
