Former Red Sox flamethrower Daniel Bard spent the first five seasons of his career in Boston. His last season with the Red Sox came in 2013 and then he was away from the game for a bit as he dealt with the "yips" and the fallout of it. MLB and the MLB Players Association both agreed on a longer leave for Ortiz. The original agreement between the two parties was announced on July 3, when Ortiz had to leave the Guardians. An update was supposed to come right after the All-Star break. It came Friday. Ortiz is now out at least until September.

An unnamed MLB team reached out to the Pittsburgh Pirates about trading for superstar starting pitcher Paul Skenes, but that overture was rejected, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Marlins slugger Kyle Stowers is having one hell of a week. He was the hero Friday as he hit a two-run, walk-off home run to beat the Royals.  That was actually the second home run of the night for Stowers and he finished by going 3 for 5 with two homers and five RBI.

Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz will remain on non-disciplinary leave through Aug. 31 while he is the subject of a Major League Baseball gambling investigation. Ortiz's paid leave began on July 3 and was supposed to end on Friday before MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to extend it.
