A young girl in Texas died by suicide after being bullied about her family’s immigration’s status, according to her family.

Over the weekend, hundreds of mourners in Texas attended a candlelight vigil to remember Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, the 11-year-old girl who died by suicide after allegedly being bullied at school about her family’s immigration status.

GAINESVILLE – Hundreds gathered in downtown Gainesville Saturday to mourn the life of a Texas girl who died by suicide. Her family said classmates bullied her by threatening to call immigration agents on her parents.

In late January, students at Jocelynn Rojo Carranza’s school spread rumors and speculation that immigration authorities would deport families of students at the largely Hispanic school, according to a parent and another student.

Hundreds packed into the downtown square Saturday night for a vigil honoring Jocelynn Carranza, who died by suicide earlier this month. Loved ones said she was bullied and threatened over her family's immigration status.
