A mourning ceremony has been held in Reims in eastern France to honor Sebastião Salgado, the celebrated Brazilian photographer and environmentalist who died Friday at 81.

Brazilian photographer and environmentalist Sebastião Salgado, known for his award-winning images of nature and humanity, has died after complications from malaria developed into leukemia, his family said.

Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado, whose black-and-white photographs documented human suffering and destruction of the Amazon rainforest, died Friday. He was 81.
