A weather system swirling off the coast of western Mexico has developed into the first tropical storm of the eastern North Pacific hurricane season, forecasters said Thursday.

There is a near 100% chance that a tropical storm will form in the next 48 hours, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s National Hurricane Center (NHC).

NOAA predicts an above-average Atlantic hurricane season with 13-19 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes.
