Simon Nemec scored 2:36 into the second overtime and the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Friday night in Game 3 of the first-round playoff series to cut the Canes series lead to 2-1.

Simon Nemec’s goal at 2:36 of the second OT was the winner, giving the Devils their first win of the series. Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be played Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

After a goalless second period, Dawson Mercer quickly doubled the Devils lead at 1:20 of the third period. Seth Jarvis scored a power-play goal with a snapshot at 6:11 of the third to bring Carolina within one. Sebastian Aho scored a second power-play goal to tie the game and send it to sudden-death overtime. As Nico Hischier said: It’s a series.
