After a whirlwind three days of diverting tens of thousands of people from NJ Transit's rail system, the agency reached a tentative deal with its locomotive engineers to end a historic strike that sent shockwaves statewide — just in time for the workweek.

While a new deal has been reached, rail service won't resume until Tuesday. NJ Transit says rail cars and infrastructure must first undergo safety inspections, and equipment must be put back in the proper places since the trains haven't been used in several days.
