The Mario series has a pretty hefty lineup in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with nine strictly Mario-original fighters, and even more if you lump related series in, like Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario.

Dr. MARIO Nintendo knows that the power of Super Smash Bros. Melee is deeply rooted in its past. All of our favorite franchises wrapped into one neat and highly addictive package.

Of course, the same argument applies. There are already a ton of Mario or Mario-adjacent characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so adding another one would’ve been difficult to justify.
