Venezuela's ruling party is celebrating what it has described as "an overwhelming victory" in regional and parliamentary elections, which were boycotted by the majority of opposition parties. The electoral council (CNE),

Boycotting elections often contributes to greater authoritarian control and deepens divisions within the opposition.

Some in the opposition say the only way to protest is to abstain. Others say doing so will let the government “say they won without resistance.”
