A Year 12 student at a Melbourne private school has died after he “unexpectedly collapsed” during rowing training.

A Melbourne Grammar School student has died after collapsing during rowing training on the banks of the Yarra River.

Melbourne Grammar School student Ed Millear, 17, was training at the school’s boat shed next to the Yarra River when he collapsed about 4.40pm. He was treated at the scene before being rushed to The Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. The student was admitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator however died about 3am on Wednesday.
