Over the past few weeks the ocean water at South Carolina's Grand Strand strip are strikingly clear and blue. Meteorologist Bob Larson explains why.
"The blue wavelengths of light are scattered, similar to the scattering of blue light in the sky, but absorption is a much larger factor than scattering for the clear ocean water.
The ocean can look deceptively calm – until it isn’t. ... They create deceptively calm periods, and lulls between these wave sets can last ten or 15 minutes.
