On Tuesday, the city of Burnsville is honoring the line-of-duty deaths of two police officers, Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth. It has been one year since they were killed while responding to a domestic violence call.

The wreaths in the cold sunshine Tuesday outside Burnsville City Hall marked a somber anniversary. One medley of white and purple flowers for Paul Elmstrand, a 27-year-old police officer, husband and father.

Two of the men, Adam Finseth and Matthew Ruge, had Rochester and Wabasha ties.

Sgt. Adam Medlicott didn't just work with the two Burnsville police officers who were shot and killed last year; he trained them and he mentored them. Our Jonah Kaplan shares how their sacrifice and their service will always be remembered.
