So many people lined up to see Pope Francis lying in state at St. Peter’s Basilica that the Vatican kept the doors open all night, closing for just one hour from 6 a.m. until 7 a.m.

The body of Pope Francis was moved to St. Peter's Basilica lie in state for three days so the Catholic faithful can pay their respects to the Argentine pontiff.

The rite began in the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta, where Francis lived for the 12 years of his pontificate and where he was placed in a simple, zinc-lined coffin on April 21.
