The Right Rev. Carolyn Guidry, a pioneering African Methodist Episcopal bishop, has passed away at the age of 87. She was the first woman to lead several major roles within the A.M.E. Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Penny Stone Alexander and Mary Stone, both of Union City; two brothers, Finis Burress and wife, Judy, and Nolie Burress; and several cousins and nephews.
