(Gray News) - An Amber Alert has been issued for a 1-year-old girl from North Carolina after police say she and her mother were abducted by three suspects. Police are searching for 1-year-old Grecia Salome Alejandro-Benitez after she was abducted along with her mother, Alondra Michelle Benitez-De Jesus.

The AMBER Alert was born in 1996 when local media teamed up with local police to develop an early warning system to find abducted children following the abduction and brutal murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, of Arlington. An AMBER Alert issued Thursday afternoon for a 15-year-old girl from North Richland Hills has been canceled.
