The women’s basketball game between the University of South Carolina (USC) and Louisiana State University (LSU) has been moved after wintry weather swept the Palmetto State.

The Southeastern Conference said Wednesday that it's rescheduling the LSU -South Carolina women's basketball game because of weather-related travel issues. The game, originally scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. Thursday in Columbia, South Carolina, will now begin at 4 p.m. Friday on ESPN.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a top-five matchup between the past two national champions, No. 5 LSU (20-0, 5-0 SEC) will play at No. 2 South Carolina (18-1, 6-0 SEC) Friday afternoon in Colonial Life Arena at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN as the Tigers put their unbeaten record on the line.

A highly anticipated women's basketball matchup between No. 2 South Carolina and No. 5 LSU, planned for Thursday, will be postponed to Friday because of a winter storm, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” TV show will head to Columbia for the Gamecocks’ matchup with the Tigers on Jan. 23. The one-hour program will air at 7 p.m., preceding the conference rivalry between No. 5 LSU and No. 2 South Carolina.

Meanwhile, LSU has cruised through the season undefeated, regularly winning by large margins. Their first major test came on Nov. 7 in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship, where the Tigers defeated then-No. 20 NC State 82-65 to claim the title.

For the uninitiated, the ending of the 2024 SEC Championship game between Staley’s Gamecocks and Kim Mulkey’s Tigers was muddied by an on-court altercation. LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson intentionally fouled USC’s MiLaysia Fulwiley, which led to Johnson shoving USC’s Ashlyn Watkins. And that led to USC’s Kamilla Cardoso pushing Johnson to the ground.

Last year’s heated title game: Friday will be the first time South Carolina and LSU have played since last year’s SEC Championship game. The Gamecocks won 79-72, but the day was ultimately muddied by a late-game altercation that resulted in multiple player ejections.
