WASHINGTON (AP) — Courage is based in love, Melania Trump said Tuesday as she recognized eight women from around the world for bravery, including an Israeli citizen who was held captive by Hamas for nearly two months after the militant group’s deadly raid on her country in October 2023.

Melania Trump honored women with the State Department's annual award for superior courage, calling their actions "a powerful catalyst" in fighting injustice.

Since 2007, the State Department has recognized more than 200 women for "promoting peace and prosperity and human rights" countries across the world.
